Ipswich is Suffolk's county town and is steeped in history. Set beside the River Orwell, Ipswich is England's oldest continuously settled Anglo-Saxon town. Historic buildings line the streets and include twelve medieval churches, the Unitarian Meeting House, Wolsey's Gate and the Ancient House, with its fine pargetting.
Ipswich comes up trumps when it comes to arts and culture. Serious art lovers should be sure to stop by the Tudor Christchurch Mansion, home to the best collection of Constable and Gainsborough works outside of London, while if you're looking for plays and musicals take a look at what's on at the New Wolsey Theatre.
Take a stroll along the waterfront for some real culture and vitality, with its marina, restaurants and bars it's the perfect venue to spend an evening. You can even explore the River Orwell in magnificent style with Orwell River Cruises. Be it a daytime public cruise, themed evening cruises or a private charter, you are sure for a great time.
For family fun, you are spoilt for choice. Make sure you stop by Jimmy's Farm, home to the Rare Breed Essex Pig as well as Cattle and Sheep, it offers a day like no other. To experience a true taste of the county, the annual Suffolk Show is the place to be. The two day event takes place each June and features ring displays, food and drink, retail therapy, plants and garden-ware as well as equestrian and livestock exhibits.

Suffolk Show 1st & 2nd June 2011
The Suffolk Show, the County's biggest day out, offers something for everyone.
