Celebrate Threads at Lavenham Farmers' Market, Sunday 24th July
Lavenham Farmers' Market joined in with Suffolk Open Weekend festivities on Sunday 24 July as a record number of people came to Lavenham Village Hall to celebrate the local heritage and culture of this beautiful part of Suffolk.
The monthly Farmers' Market has become a hugely popular event since its relaunch almost three years ago, joined up with Choose Suffolk's HLF-funded Suffolk Threads project to mark the Open Weekend. The Threads project aims to create a lasting legacy highlighting the historical significance of the Suffolk wool towns during the mediaeval period and has encompassed a wide range of activities including a curriculum pack for schools and the weaving of a piece of 'Lavenham Blew' cloth by the Lavenham Guild of Spinners & Weavers. The Lavenham Blue cloth has been made into a new cushion for the settle in Lavenham Guildhall and it will be on permanent display there - visitors will be encouraged not only to admire it, but to sit on it too!
Justine Paul, organiser of the Farmers' Market, said it was the perfect opportunity to bring local producers together with local craftspeople. Outside the Village Hall the spinners & weavers shared their skills with hundreds of interested onlookers while a local willow weaver, a potter, an author and a woodturner displayed their work on the grass.
Inside the hall the Farmers' Market was in full swing with over thirty traders selling some of the very best, fresh, local produce including fresh fruit & vegetables, home baked pies, local pork & sausages, Suffolk apple juice, jams & preserves, fresh pesto, plants & cut flowers and locally brewed real ales & wines.
The next Farmers' Market at Lavenham will be held on Sunday August 28th from 10am until 1.30pm. For further information please contact Justine on 07704627973 or visit the website www.lavenhamfarmersmarket.co.uk
