Description

Whether you are interested in history or nature, or you simply want to have a relaxing time, you and your family will enjoy Clare Castle Country Park. It is a fascinating area that enables the visitor to uncover a thousand years of history.

It is quite unique in having the remains of a Victorian railway station located within the grounds of what was once a Norman ‘Motte and Bailey’ Castle. In addition to exploring these important historical remains our walks and trails will take you through many wildlife rich areas including woodland, grassland and waterside. Enjoy a stroll along the riverside path or along a disused railway line that is now a haven for wild flowers and ‘mini beasts’.

Interpretation boards can be found throughout which chart the parks history from Medieval Norman Castle to modern day Country Park and tell you all about the nature and wildlife contained within the Park. There is plenty of open space for games and a picnic or let the children entertain themselves in the adventure play area. The park also runs a popular year-round programme of entertaining and educational events including themed treasure trails for children, outdoor theatre and heritage events.
