Glamping in Suffolk

If you enjoy the great outdoors and a bit of escapism, but aren’t quite so keen on the simplicity of pitching a tent and unrolling your sleeping bag for the night, then glamping might be perfect for you.

An amalgam of the words ‘glamour’ and ‘camping,’ glamping blends the close-to-nature, outdoorsy fun of camping, with a level of luxury more akin to a stay in a hotel. Think handmade shepherd’s hut with luxury linens and fluffy towels or fully furnished, elegant yurts with heated woodland showers.

We have a lovely selection of glamping options in Suffolk from safari tents to retro (and luxurious) camper vans. Here’s our pick…

ALDE GARDEN

Alde Garden is a cosy, quirky campsite conveniently located close to the stunning Suffolk coast, offering an eclectic range of rustic and a unique variety of accommodation, with charming outdoor facilities, an outdoor ‘jungle’ shower, as well as a handful of small tent pitches.  Only 2 hours from London by train, and a 20 minute drive from Suffolk’s diverse coastline – Alde Garden makes the perfect spot for a holiday, retreat or short break. It’s simple, what you’ll find here is the perfect antidote to a busy life. Enjoy!

BOUNDARY FARM GLAMPING

Not far from Saxmundham and the heritage coast, two safari tents sit nestled deep in the Suffolk countryside in their own two acre meadow. Each of these tents at Boundary Farm has en-suite shower and toilet facilities, a wood burner and fully equipped kitchen. Real home-from-home comforts, with the benefit of being close to nature.

HAPPY DAYS RETRO VACATIONS

Kitsch camping at its best! In 2016, Happy Days Retro Vacations was featured for the fourth year running, in The Times newspaper’s list of Top 20 Glamping Sites in the UK.  Stay in an American Airstream from the 1950s or choose Elsie, the British retro caravan, and make the most of the on site family-friendly facilities. The large garden has a children’s play area with swings, a trampoline and even a vintage army truck.

SECRET MEADOWS

Stay off-grid in 115 acres of meadows and woodland at award-winning Secret Meadows at White Horse Farm, near Woodbridge. Choose from a luxurious lodge tent, a gypsy caravan, a shepherd’s hut, or the ‘hobbit box’, a cleverly converted horsebox, which sleeps four people.

WEST STOW PODS

Living in a forest in a wooden pod for a few days can mean only one thing: magical adventure and exploration!
West Stow Pods are set in private woodland close to Lackford Lakes nature reserve near Bury St Edmunds and the site has been listed by The Guardian as one of the top ten best glamping sites in the UK.

STAY COSY IN A COSY POD

Just outside the historic town of Ipswich you can stay at Cosy Camping in a charming wooden pod.  It’s just like camping but without having to struggle with putting up your tent! You will be able to relax and enjoy the Suffolk countryside but there are plenty of attractions nearby to keep the whole family occupied too.

DAWN CHORUS HOLIDAYS

Situated in the middle of the Waveney Valley on a small working farm with chickens, sheep, cows and pigs, Dawn Chorus Holidays consists of two safari tents and three shepherd’s huts.  They are all well spaced out with their own individual BBQ.  There are even some eco-friendly cottages you can hire if sleeping under the stars isn’t for everyone in your party.
