Leiston

Small town, whose prosperity grew in the 19th C. with the success of the Garrett engineering firm. They built traction engines and road rollers – with the Long Shop one of the world’s first flow-line production assembly halls. Suffolk’s oldest purpose built cinema, opened in 1914. Close by are the romantic ruins of 14th C. Leiston Abbey.
