Description

Stephen Poulter, a local historian and author, offers this two-day workshop which will teach you how you can become a House Detective. Stephen will demonstrate how he looked for clues to reveal the story of his 17th century cottage in the rural village of Needham in Norfolk. The workshop invites participants to get involved, learn new skills, interpret a variety of original historical material and become equipped to set out on their own personal journey of historical discovery. Using online and archive sources he will provide examples of the maps, wills, deeds and other documents required to investigate the background of any historic property.
Hosted at Needham Village Hall, the workshop includes a Heritage Tour of this ancient hamlet which also incorporates a visit to the property highlighted in the study. Attendees will learn about the development of this small, rural settlement which dates back to the Roman period. A wealth of historic manuscripts will be provided relating to past residents of Needham’s surviving listed properties, as well as the 12th century, round tower church at which they would have worshipped.
The fees include refreshments in the morning and afternoons of both days.
The next House Detective weekend takes place on Sat & Sun 19th/20th Feb 2022

Pricing

The fee is £60 per person for two days and includes refreshments in the morning and afternoons of both days. Attendees can chose to purchase their own lunch from nearby hostelries and Stephen can recommend accommodation if visitors want to add an overnight stay.
