Description

House – Stunningly beautiful, earliest brick, symmetrical and Open Courtyard House in England. Set in extensive brick lined moat with unusual & intriguing interiors. Built by John Clopton builder of Melford’s Church and his son Sir William between c1485 & 1530 it has been ‘improved’ since, notably in 1825 and recently. Don’t miss its unique brick service building rising sheer from the moat

Gardens – Dominated by so much greenery as enjoyable in winter as in summer. Massed spring bulbs as drifts of daffodils until they give way to the delightful cowslip.

Lambing – On our Lambing Days, you will see ewes about to lamb and those with new-born lambs in the lambing pens in our Tudor Stables – you might even see a lamb being born!

Strolling – With Carp in the moat, Greylag and Canada geese settling in and Percy the Peacock with his wives, all seems well in the world. Relax, take it slowly, and let the quietness and peace envelope you.

For young children – The Maze, Yew Castle and unexpected surprises here & there to find. Also varied I-Spy challenges.

Tearoom – relax in the Tea Garden or under cover
