Easter in the Heart of Suffolk

Easter is here! Springtime flowers, stacks of chocolate, and quality time with the family.  The Easter holidays are just around the corner and there is plenty for you and your family to see and do to make the most of the time away from work and school.

The weather is warming up and we’re very eggcited to get out and about and enjoy the best of what the Heart of Suffolk has to offer this Easter.

Mid Suffolk Light Railway

At the Mid Suffolk Light Railway, you’ll find plenty to see when you come along to the Easter Steam up on 17th and 18th April.  This will be the museum’s first major weekend opening of 2022, so get ready to hop aboard for some real Easter fun

Two locos will be on duty, the Cockerill Steam Tram and the Shredded Wheat Heritage Railway Association’s award-winning Fowler diesel, topping and tailing the trains of Victorian 4-wheel coaches.

Plus as a special addition just for you, there will be a few talented local craft stallholders selling a range of handmade crafts including original paintings, cards, wax melts, bath products, Amigurumi animals, and much more.

Red Gables – Stowmarket

18th April – Easter Egg hunt, with Craft and Family fun.

Fun for all ages! Join in on the Springtime fun, and keep your eyes peeled on an Easter Egg Hunt in the beautiful surroundings of Red Gables. Each ticket includes Egg Hunt entry plus time at the Egg exchange where attendees can exchange their eggs for chocolate delights and select their craft pack. The craft tables will be ready for you to sit and relax with a glass of squash or a hot drink and biscuit and create your masterpiece. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to help you and photos with her are welcomed to make your day memorable.

There will also be a children’s lucky dip, a tombola, cakes, and further refreshments available to buy separately.  Find out more

All proceeds from this event will be going to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal via the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The Bank – Eye

Quill & Inkling will be venturing up to Eye for the Medieval Madness event on Easter Sunday. Gather round and enjoy historical tales of excitement and intrigue!  Find them on Facebook for more details.  Whilst in Eye, make the most of your visit with a walk to the top of the remains of Eye Castle.  You will get to see some spectacular views of the town and the surrounding countryside.

Lavenham Guildhall Easter Egg Hunt

Time to get searching and wander around the quaint village of Lavenham and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family.  Grab a trail map and pencil from the Guildhall, then let the Easter fun begin. Once you’ve finished the trail, you’ll even get a chocolate egg at the end.  The trail takes place between 9th – 18th  April, 2022, from 10.30 am – 2 pm.  You then have the rest of the day to enjoy the wonders of the beautiful town, and maybe pop into one of the welcoming cafes for an easter snack.

Kentwell Hall – Long Melford

An exciting Eastertide event is running at Kentwell Hall and will be in full swing this year, running from Good Friday through to Easter Monday. Take the family out for an awesome adventure, wandering the gardens and woodland to discover fun surprises along the way! You can even take part in the Eggheads Challenge: “’scramble’ the code on the huge wooden eggs to ‘crack’ the puzzle they reveal, but please don’t get ‘eggy’ if you can’t work it out!  This is an egg-hunt with a difference, for the whole family to enjoy and join in with together.”

Make a day of your visit to Kentwell Hall and meet some of the living history experts who will take you on a journey back through time discovering the historical wonders of cooking, baking, and crafts, plus you can see this year’s lambs in the paddocks on the farm.
