Kentwell Hall and Gardens

Kentwell Hall and Gardens

Long Melford,
CO10 9BA

This is Kentwell’s biggest, best known and most loved Tudor event of the year.

Visitors step back in time to 1538 where our Tudors re-create a whole working, living community. Tudors dress, speak, cook, eat, drink, create music and dance . . . and live life as it was then (this is not a demonstration, it is life lived as it was).

Tudors will be in the house - gentry and staff, the Moat House including the dairy, bakehouse and the brewhouse. They will be around the gardens and in the woods. There will be lessons in the school house and the villagers will be going about their daily lives.

*** speak of anything beyond 1538 and they will no idea of what you are talking about!!

Children are just fascinated about how their ancestors lived and love trying everything that they have never seen before. A brilliant, almost educational family day out.

The house, gardens and grounds will all be open and Kentwell’s gardens are often described as ‘magical’ and you will see why when visiting the Walled & Sunken garden’s with their unique and special interest features. Look out for the Pied Piper Hedge, an original Tudor Ice House and the Yew Castle.
This year Kentwell has extended the Story Book Adventure Trail to encourage children to get ‘outdoors and let their imagination have fun’. The trail includes nineteen stories and characters who you will meet on your journey around the Kentwell Estate. Characters include the enormous ‘Crunching Munching Caterpillar’ who is over 6 yards long to magnificent sculptured metal 'Gorilla who wanted to Grow Up' - and each book and every character is represented in its own unique way.

A brilliant a family day out.
