The great British composer, Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), lived and worked at The Red House which he shared with his partner, the singer Peter Pears. Explore this wonderful site on the outskirts of Suffolk coastal town, Aldeburgh.

The Red House is closed until the end of April, given the latest guidance and information from Public Health England and the UK Government.

The gardens are open free of charge Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm, however no additional facilities will be available (such as toilets and refreshments) so please come prepared.

At present, all events and group visits programmed between now until the end of April have either been cancelled or postponed and refunds are being processed.

By car: From the A12, take the A1094 to Aldeburgh. Follow the brown sign directing you straight on towards the roundabout. At the roundabout (past the supermarkets on your right), take the first exit: the B1122 Leiston Road. Golf Lane is the second turning on the left, directly opposite the brown sign directing you to ‘The Red House’. There are two car parks available onsite. Users of satnav and online mapping systems beware: you may be misdirected into Linden Close, from where there is no access to our site.

Cycling: We encourage cyclists to use our bike shed which is located in car park 2.

Walking from Aldeburgh: The Red House is approximately a 30-35-minute walk from The Moot Hall in Aldeburgh.

By public transport: The nearest train station is Saxmundham provided by Greater Anglia. For information on how to get to the area by train and bus visit The Suffolk Coast. For visitors travelling further afield you can plan your journey via Trainline.
