Join us for a jam-packed weekend of family fun and take part in Christmas themed mini Olympics (think sprout throwing and carrot javelins!), spend a day with an elf as they take you to a class at elf school and show you how to make a natural christmas decoration in the elf workshop, followed by a winter wonderland walk. Spend an evening around a warming campfire singing festive songs. On the final day learn some map skills to find out how santa navigates around the globe and finally meet him in his grotto to collect your present!

Fill your festive boots with hot chocolate, mulled wine, Christmas biscuits, mince pies and a three-course Christmas dinner.

Friday evening

Saturday

Breakfast and an opportunity to make packed lunch
9:30am – 10:30am Elf school: Learn all the important skills needed to be an elf: stacking presents, getting down chimneys, steering reindeer, stealth walking, finding your way in the dark and making people laugh.
Morning break
11am – 12pm Elf workshop: Visit the elf workshop where the children will make natural Christmas decorations or a wreath to take home.
Lunch time
1:30pm – 2pm – Visit Mrs Claus’ kitchen to decorate a gingerbread man.
2pm – 3pm Winter wonderland walk: Explore the Enchanted Forest with your Elf guide and find the secret passcode needed to visit Santa on Sunday morning.
Afternoon break
4pm Christmas feasts for wildlife: Families to make Christmas theme bird feeders and reindeer food to take home with them to put out on Christmas eve. Families to set mammal traps to find out what small mammals Santa might see when he visits Flatford overnight.
3 course Christmas dinner (timings to be confirmed)
Warm up around a campfire and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine (adults) or Christmas biscuit and hot chocolate (children).
Get into the festive mood with Christmas songs with our elves.

Sunday

Breakfast and an opportunity to make packed lunch
9:30am Open mammal traps to get a glimpse of what mammals are awake at night.
Learn some map skills that are used by Santa to help him navigate around the globe. Families to compete in a Christmas themed friendly orienteering course around the centre grounds
10:30am Finish your winter wonderland weekend by meeting Santa before leaving, each child will receive a present.
11am Families may wish to borrow a local map and walk along the River Stour to Dedham or explore the local area.

Children welcome

We have 78 beds over 25 bedrooms. Our dining room can cater for up to 60 people at a time. We have 5 classrooms, all with interactive whiteboards. Guests can also use our library and recreation room. We also have extensive grounds including river frontage, our own island, woods, reedbeds, open fields and meadows.

We understand it is difficult to make plans at the moment and that things may change for you before you can join us. To help you book with confidence we will refund any payments you have made for the course if you are unable to come due to Covid-19 government restrictions which prevent you from travelling (such as travel bans or enforced self-isolation). If you are in a position where you may need to cancel due to Covid-19 we would appreciate at least 48hrs notice.

By car: From the A12 take the turning for East Bergholt / Flatford. Drive through East Bergholt, following the signs to Flatford. when on the one-way lane, follow signs to the Field Study Centre, driving past the National Trust Bridge Cottage, along the lane to the large brick building next to the river where our Reception is located. Parking is available for our customers in the car park at the end of the lane.

By public transport: Our nearest train station in Manningtree, about 60 minutes train ride from London Liverpool Street. Taxis are available at the station (about 10 minute taxi ride)
