Details

Landguard Nature Reserve is a special place and a great location for beachcombing.

Meeting point: Meet at the black gates at the entrance to Landguard Nature Reserve directly opposite the car park with the bus stop in it. Landguard Fort will be on your right. I will be obvious in a bright yellow hi viz jacket.

Please join me ten minutes before the beachcomb begins so we can start promptly. Sorry, but if you are late you won't be able to join us.

What age is this suitable for? All ages. Children must be supervised at all times by their accompanying adults.

It can be windy and cold on the beach even on a sunny day so wrap up with lots of layers for warmth and against the wind. Please wear shoes suitable for walking on shingle.

There is plenty of free parking at Landguard. There is one large car park opposite the entrance to Landguard Nature Reserve and another adjacent to the Visitor Centre.

Map reference: TM 282316  Lat: 51.93609 Long: 1.31831

By Car:
Take the A14 towards Felixstowe. At the large roundabout beside the water tower (junction 60), turn right, remaining on the A14 (the Port of Felixstowe road). Then at the next roundabout go straight on towards the town centre. Cross over the railway level crossing, then turn right at the traffic lights onto Langer Road.

There are two main areas at Landguard:
Manor Terrace - from Langer Road turn left onto Manor Road, signed with a brown/white sign showing a bird and parking. The road then bears right into Manor Terrace. Follow this to the car park at the end. There is free parking and public toilets. Manor Terrace provides a great starting point for exploring the Nature Reserve.
View Point - from Langer/Carr Road (just after passing the Suffolk Sands Caravan Park), turn left onto View Point Road. This road (with speed bumps) will take you down to the main car parks for the Fort, Museum, Viewing Area and Visitor Centre (View Point Cafe).

By Public Transport:
FirstGroup bus route 77 from/to Ipswich drops you off right outside Landguard Fort on View Point Road. This bus also stops opposite Great Eastern Square which is convenient for the Felixstowe train station. The train station at Felixstowe town centre is 2½ miles away from the Landguard Peninsula.
