Details

Which parts of Suffolk most resemble the following: the Yangtse River in China? A New York mansion which hosts masked orgies? The birthplace of Harry Potter? The answers to these questions can be found in Suffolk on the Silver Screen, an informal exploration and celebration of how the countryside, coast and stately homes of Suffolk have been used as film locations. From blockbusters featuring James Bond to low-budget films starring non-actors, it will be seen how places like Lavenham or Elvedon Hall are transformed through the magic of the movies to represent somewhere totally different, be it another part of the world or sometime in the distant past! The economic reasons for shooting in Suffolk will also be considered, along with potential financial benefits like tourism. Finally, there will be a brief look at the films which are set in Suffolk but shot elsewhere, and ask the question “why?”
